Description
XIAO Expansion Board Product Overview
The board features a compact and elegant design (58mm × 42.5mm), only half the size of a Raspberry Pi 4, ideal for tiny and wearable projects. It packs rich onboard peripherals: a 0.96-inch OLED display for real-time data visualization and efficient debugging without a PC serial monitor; a high-precision RTC (with CR1220 backup battery) to keep accurate time when main power is off; a rear Mini SD card slot to expand storage for CircuitPython and store more prototype libraries and data; plus a passive buzzer (can be disabled by cutting the rear solder pad to free A3) and a user-defined button.
All XIAO pins are exposed, alongside 4 plug-and-play Grove connectors (2× Grove I2C, 1× Grove UART, 1× A0/D0) supporting multiple data protocols. It also provides SWD debug headers, a 5V servo connector, and a JST 2.0 Li-Po battery socket (supporting USB and battery power with a charge indicator), greatly expanding robotics and IoT capabilities. With CircuitPython support, it's an excellent choice for rapid validation, wearables, and sensor hubs.

FAQ
Q: What do the different charging indicator states mean?
A: Blinking green: USB powered but no battery connected; Solid green: Charging the Li-Po battery; Off: Battery charging complete.
Q: How do I use the onboard buzzer, and what if I don't want it occupying pin A3?
A: The board defaults the buzzer to the A3 signal line. If your project needs A3 for another purpose, locate the A3 buzzer solder pad on the back of the board and cut it to disconnect the buzzer, freeing A3 for custom functions.
Q: How do I connect and charge a Li-Po battery?
A: The board features a standard JST 2.0 Li-Po socket; simply plug in a 3.7V battery. When powered via the Type-C port, the onboard management chip automatically charges the battery and supports pass-through operation.
Q: Which Grove modules are supported?
A: The board has 4 Grove interfaces, including 2 I2C, 1 UART, and 1 Analog/Digital (A0/D0), enabling plug-and-play with hundreds of standard Grove sensors and actuators in the Seeed ecosystem.
Q: Does the board have volume control or audio output?
A: The onboard component is a passive buzzer, which can change pitch by outputting PWM signals at different frequencies (similar to the Wio Terminal). It's suitable for simple alerts or playing melodies but does not support headphones or high-quality speaker audio.
